Lenovo Vies For Smartphone Market Share in Emerging Economies

The Chinese PC maker Lenovo announced that the company plans to sell Smartphones in emerging markets, as reported by the Wall Street Journal on 24 October. Amid a sluggish global demand for mainstream PCs, this is the company's another aggressive attempt to tap overseas Smartphone market after years of focusing on the Chinese market. According to its plan, Lenovo will begin Smartphone sales in India in early November, offering a wide range of products from high-end, mid-range, to value line models with a price tag between US$199 to US$349. The models will run on Android system and support local languages. Besides India, the company has begun selling Smartphones in Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam as well.
